Veterans Learn to Surf
On July 28th Veterans of Combined Forces Surfing Association held it's second event. With service personnel showing up to learn to surf in the winter wind/rain, the event went without a hitch!
The event started off with the local Iwi blessing the event with a Karakia by Reon Tuanau.
Next Bobby Ball spoke about why the event is taking place, and the 5 ways to wellness from the mental health foundation focussing on keeping our mental health in good shape.
Give, Be Active, Keep Learning, Take Notice and Connect with each other and the ocean through surfing.
Then onto the main event - SURFING.
Comradery was experienced both in the water and out with former and new veterans feeling connected by the ocean.
Soldiers Sailors Airmens Association of New Zealand kindly provided food for everyone during the day and the Katikati RSA & Citizens Clubteam were there making hot drinks as the participants came out of the water.
A big thanks to all the volunteers and kind donations from the local community!
Also special mentions to The Beach house Café, Flatwhite café, Canyonz, DK Surf school, Reon Tuanau, Jwan Milek Photography, Raglan Sign Company, Career Tree, the local council and Iwi, and finally all the service men and women who serve and have served our country.
We salute you all. Many thanks from the crew at VCFSA.
