Forgotten war graves get a spruce up from Sean
While cleaning the graves of returned servicemen and women in South Taranaki, Sean Trott has uncovered stories of bravery and deceit, and even some wrong dates.
For the past year, Trott, who is president of the South Taranaki RSA and has a keen interest in history, has spent his weekends in the district’s cemeteries, scrubbing, sanding, and repainting headstones.
“I have a very understanding wife,” he says.
Trott, who works for Fonterra, has picked up some stories on the way.
“This man,” he says, pointing at one grave, “has a military medal but it doesn't say so on his headstone.
