Armistice Coin Order
An exciting opportunity you won't want to miss…
On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, the guns fell silent along the Western Front. The First World War had effectively ended. Though not formally a surrender, the signing of the Armistice marked a victory for the Allies and a defeat for Germany.
100 years on, the Reserve Bank of New Zealand will release a circulating 50 cent coin to commemorate this event and to honour the men and women who served then, and those who serve today.
This coin features the red poppy of the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services' Association (RNZRSA) at its centre.
The three silver ferns on the wreath surrounding the poppy represent the three services within the New Zealand Defence Force. They also symbolise past, present and future. The unfolding koru pattern evokes new beginnings.
