Media Coverage: TVOne TV3 New Zealand Herald About the Poppy PackThe 90th Commemoration of the Battle of Passchendaele takes place this year on 12 October near Ypres, Belgium. Nearby, there are several hundred New Zealand graves. The New Zealand Memorial to the Missing at Tyne Cot Cemetery also commemorates 1,200 officers and men with no known grave. Revered 1905 All Blacks captain, Dave Gallaher, was killed in the early stages of the efforts to secure Passchendaele. He is buried at Nine Elms Cemetery. A total of 10 All Blacks were killed on the Western Front. The Royal New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association (RNZRSA) is offering for sale a commemorative Poppy Pack to mark the 90th anniversary of Passchendaele.
It tells the story of the battle and provides a step-by-step guide on how to find New Zealand soldiers’ graves. Inside is a map showing local cemeteries of interest. RNZRSA poppies are also included.
