RSA and Family Day
Anniversary Day (Mon 23 January)
The second day of the Century City Developments Wellington Cup Carnival
will see Trentham play host to the Royal New Zealand Returned and Services'
Association and Family Anniversary Race Day. Those on course will be able
to help celebrate the close links between the Wellington Racing Club and
the RNZRSA who will also be commemorating 90 years of the RNZRSA.
The day promises to be very entertaining with a wide variety of military
exhibits on display and a parade of special Army vehicles and troops.
Music throughout the day will be provided by the 7th Wellington/Hawkes
Bay Battalion Band and the Upper Hutt Cosmopolitan Brass Band. At the
village marquee in the forecourt the Beat Girls will perform their wartime
renditions of some old favourites to keep your toes tapping throughout
the afternoon.
The day at the village marquee will be compered by the legendary Frankie
Stevens who will keep all people on course entertained with his wit and
singing prowess.
There promises to be heaps of activities for the children including the
children’s Fashion in the Field with categories for the 6 to 12
and 13 to 16 year olds, Bananas in Pyjamas, a Bouncy Castle, clowns, face-painting,
a “Greyhounds as Pets” display and more.
Free entry is offered to all Royal NZRSA Members and their families,
by showing their membership at the gate, whilst a gold coin donation to
the Catwalk Trust is the entry cost for the general public.
For the purist there is a feast of racing including the Dulux NZ Wellington
Cup Trial Open 2200m Handicap, the last lead up to the Dulux Colour Map
Wellington Cup, whilst the remainder of the card should be a competitive
one, with higher than normal stakemoney offered right across the day.
Trentham is the place to be on Monday 23 January, the second day of the
Century City Developments 2006 Wellington Cup Carnival for a day of nostalgia
with the RNZRSA and fun for the children, keeping the kids, the Mums and
Dads and the Grandparents all entertained.
