50th Commemorations at Home and AbroadThe Wellington Cathedral of St. Paul will be the centrepoint for a National Commemorative Service marking the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Armistice on 27 July 1953. At 12 noon on Sunday, 27th July, Korean War veterans will be joined by New Zealand Government, Defence and Korean Embassy representatives in a Commemorative Service. Korean War veterans, their wives and families, partners and widows, are all invited to attend. The first part of the service will be a traditional one, with the second part a light programme including folk songs sung by a Korean youth choir. The NZ Army Band will also perform during the ceremonies. In Korea, 30 K-Force veterans will join Prime Minister Helen Clark as part of the official New Zealand delegation to attend commemorative services in that country. Included in the party of over 100 are several young members of the New Zealand Cadet Force, as well as current serving members of the NZDF who will provide the honour guard.
